Homemade cooling Summer Dog Treats and Dog ice cream

The time has come for me to share my favourite summer doggy treats with you. I’m talking delicious, homemade dog ice cream popsicles, yummy cooling treats and healthy yoghurt dog treats.


When it comes to dog treat we like to keep it as natural and healthy as possible. Making homemade dog treats is a fun way to bond with your dog, and it’s also a great way to make sure you know exactly what ingredients go into your dog treats.


We all want the very best for our dogs, but sadly not all dog products are very good for our beloved pooches. So, I’ve come up with a tried and true list of my favourite summer dog treats…these treats won’t just spoil your pooch, they will help them keep cool in the summer and they’re healthy too.


So let’s get to it.



Easy watermelon cooling treats


1/2 cup watermelon chunks, pips removed

1/2 cup coconut milk


Pour the watermelon chunks and the coconut milk into a blender and blend until combined. Pour the mixture into ice cube trays and freeze for 3-4 hours.

Give your pup as a delicious cooling treat on a hot summer day.


Note: Can be stored in the freezer for up to 8 weeks




Dog ice cream popsicles


1 small ripe banana

1/2 cup creamy organic peanut butter (make sure there’s no added sugars, xylitol or salt)

1/2 cup Blueberries (or mixed berries)

1 cup kefir or plain yogurt


Mash the banana and berries well and stir together with the peanut butter.

Next, add the kefir (or plain yogurt) and stir together until everything is combined.

Pour the mixture into your popsicle containers and freeze for 4-6 hours.

Treat your pup to a popsicle.





Blueberry ice cream for dogs


2/3 cup blueberries

1 medium ripe banana

1 cup (280g) natural plain yogurt


Pour the blueberries and the banana into a blender and blend until combined.

In a bowl, stir together yogurt and the blueberry/banana mixture until everything is combined.

Pour the mixture into air tight containers and freeze for 4-6 hours (or leave overnight).

Use and ice cream scoop to scoop out a delicious dog ice cream treat for your furry friend and serve in a bowl.


Notes:

Ice cream can be stored for 8 weeks in the freezer.




Mixed berry dog ice cream treats


1 cup coconut milk (or kefir)

1/2 cup pumpkin puree, no sugar additives

1 small ripe banana, mashed

1/2 cup mixed berries


Blend berries, pumpkin puree, banana and coconut milk together in a blender until combined.

Pour into ice cube trays and freeze for around 4 hours.

Your pup will love this cooling treat on a warm day.


Note: Can be stored in the freezer for up to 8 weeks.
